-Arrange transportation to/from
airport.
-Arrange for pet care / plant care /
house care.
-Give tour contact numbers to
family/friends.
-Inform neighbors/landlord about
dates away.
-Inform colleagues/students/clients
of dates away, and alternatives if they need your services.
-Put together an address list for
postcards to send.
-Pay bills, check which bills may
arrive while you are gone.
-Get cash/travelers checks. A good
way to bring cash is $100 bills. Make sure they are the up-to-date
ones with the large picture in the center. No marks or rips.
-Check with your bank/credit card
company about their policies for withdrawing money with your card
while in Egypt. ATM withdrawals are usually cheaper than cash
advances.

-Tell your credit card company that
you will be in Egypt. Credit
card companies like to know that charges may be showing up on your
account from a foreign country and that this is OK (those charges
are not typical of your spending profile, so are suspect).
-Stop/hold mail. Fill out form at
P.O.
-Do autoresponders for emails.
-Change outgoing message on
voicemail/answering machine.
-Clear out refrigerator.
-Go over packing list – spare
glasses? Medications?
-Check that cell phone has charged
battery. Bring charger or something to recharge it.
-Bring long-distance calling card,
or something so that you can make phone calls from a pay phone.
-If you intend to check your email
while in Egypt, go over the procedure for checking your emails from
a computer which is not your own. If your password is stored on your
computer, remind yourself what it is.
-Make sure you are bringing

and other important phone numbers. Put in the same place as your
ticket and passport.
