On the plane – Arrival
Form.
The flight attendants
should give you an arrival form to fill out on the plane.
A few things to know:
-"Trip number"
in the upper left box is your flight number.
-Your passport kind is
"P" for US citizens. You will see it there on the left on the
same line as your passport number.
-Your place of birth is
the state and USA (if American). No need to write the town.
-Citizenship is
"USA", not just "American."
-Your local address is
the first hotel you will be staying in, usually the "Le Meridien
Pyramids" or the "Novotel Cairo Airport."
-Your reason for stay is
"Tourism.
Put this form with your
passport. They will need it when they stamp your passport with the
entrance visa.
Arrival in Cairo
& Getting your Egyptian Visa.
1. You will be met by a
representative from American Express of Egypt. This is the company that
has made our hotel arrangements, etc. in Egypt. The representative
(called a "transfer man") will be waiting inside the entry way*
you go through when you enter the airport. He will have your names, a
YELLOW sign and will be looking for you. The sign has our logo (see top
left of this page) and says, "All One World Egypt Tours."
*Please note: For
those arriving at the newly opened Terminal 3 at Cairo airport, the rep's
are only allowed to meet travelers AFTER the travelers have passed through
passport control. So look for the rep at the baggage claim area.
2. US,
UK and Canadian citizens will need to have $20 in US Dollars cash (or
Sterling) to pay for the visa. This amount includes the expected $5 tip
for the representative that will meet you at the airport.
3. Next the rep will
show you which line to wait in to get your passport stamped, or he may
take your passport and then bring you right through without waiting.
The rep will ask you to
give him your passport and the money for the visa. He will then give you
the stamps that are for your visa. If he gives you the change back on
the $20, graciously tell him to keep the change, (i.e., $5).
4. After that he will
bring you over to baggage claim and ask you what your luggage looks like
so that he can get it off the belt for you. He will put it on a cart and
then bring you through customs. If you are bringing a video camera you
have to tell him at this point (he should remember to ask), as this has
to be written/stamped in your passport before you go through the customs
line. Digital cameras with a video function do not need to be declared.
5. If you want to buy
anything at the duty-free shop, this is your chance. Tell the rep where
you are going so that he does not have to spend a lot of time looking
for you.
6. This is also an
opportunity to exchange some money into Egyptian Pounds. They accept
cash only at the airport. You will be able to exchange money at the
hotel bank as well. At the hotel you can exchange travelers’ checks
and cash. They also have ATM machines (though these are not always
working).
7. When you get to
customs, the man will ask if you have anything to declare. Your answer
is, "No."
8. Leaving the airport,
the transfer man will hand you off to another American Express
representative who will bring you in a small van or car to the hotel. He
should accompany you inside the hotel to make sure all goes well with
your check-in/room assignment. The hotel will have you listed as
traveling with American Express.
9. You should tip the
rep that brought you to the hotel just before he leaves. If it is the
same rep that helped you at the airport you should still give him
another tip at this time. Also give him a tip to give to the driver.

if the same rep does both services).
